Shanghai OnStar Telematics Co., Ltd (hereinafter referred as Shanghai OnStar) is a joint venture officially established by OnStar, LLC (a wholly owned subsidiary of General Motors Company), Shanghai Automotive Industry Sales Co, Ltd (SAISC is part of theSAIC Group) and SGM in 2009. With a total investment of 300 million RMB, Shanghai OnStar provides safety and security services for select SGM models manufactured and sold in China. OnStar LLC and SAISC each hold a 40% equity interest respectively, while SMG holds 20% of the equity of Shanghai OnStar.
Shanghai OnStar is the eighth joint venture developed by GM and SGM, and also the first expansion of OnStar outside of the North American market. OnStar is one of the most successful brands of GM, and at the end of 2008, 95% of GM products on the North America market were equipped with the OnStar system. By adopting GPS and wireless technology, Shanghai OnStar will provide Chinese customers with a wide array of vehicle safety and information services
